RhymeSpot November - November 15th

It's November and we've been wrapped up in the events that have taken over the nation. Through it all there are two things on the minds of RhymeConnect. The first is our president-elect and the history that was made. We want to thank all of you for getting out to the polls and making your voice heard! A voice of change and hope. We pleaded at previous RhymeSpots for those in attendance to exercise their right to vote and make a change! Great Job everyone! We have a president that is not just a democratic president but a president for all people in these United States. It's a beautiful thing to watch our democracy work.

Now the second thing that's been on our mind, as it is every month, is RhymeSpot. RhymeSpot November is going to be a lot of fun.
We are soooo excited for a few reasons. We've decided to break these points of excitement down for those of you that care to know. For those of you that are short on time - check out the Quick spill at the bottom of the email.

Point of Excitement No. 1 - THE VENUE - 119 Northside Square, Downtown Huntsville.
For one we've found a venue! You'll never guess which one - we'll give you a hint. The address is 119 Northside Square Downtown Huntsville. This should sound familiar to some of you old faithfuls! This is the address of the building where RhymeSpot started in April 2007!! We started out in a cafe named Kenny's Mangos and had a number of shows there before Kenny moved out of the space. That's when we started our trek around Huntsville looking for a spot that would fit what RhymeSpot had grown to be. In the meantime Sam & Greg's Pizzeria and Gelateria has moved into the downtown space and made it their own. Sam&Greg are now welcoming RhymeSpot in November!! Talk about a full circle!! We cant wait to try the new spot on for size! Pssssssttt.. the pizza is delicious - make sure you try out the chocolate chile icecream! It's amazing!

Point of Excitement No. 2- November is Sharea's Birthday Month
Some of you may remember last November. RhymeSpot 8 was a poetic extravaganza, Sharea was celebrating her 21st birthday and pulled out all the stops to give the area a taste of poetry like it's never had before. We think she did a pretty bang up job! Well November has rolled around again and Sharea (RhymeSpot creator, host and poet) is just as excited about celebrating 22 as she was for 21. Her deuce deuce birthday ( as she calls it) will bring features and music at her request. She's inviting all her friends - poets, musicians, singers and lovers of the arts to come and have a great time at Sam&Gregs! So count this as your invitation and forward it to all your friends!! It'll be a great show!!

Point of Excitement No. 3 - The Features
RhymeConnect is very pleased to present our very own RhymeConnect Poets as features for this event. When we Sharea started picking out features for November (months ago) she decided that she wanted only two features, herself and a selected open mic. She's been waiting for awhile to feature these poets from RhymeConnect and she's sure now is the time. You've seen them running around RhymeSpot, announcing, co-hosting, passing out tickets or taking your admission but now we're going to give these two poets a chance to showcase their talents. Andre and Prophecy will be spotlight features in November. This is going to be their first official community feature - talk about exciting! We know you've seen them both get up at open mics all over the community and at with Oakwood's Art&Soul but this is going to be something to behold. These guys are going to be bringing the heat! You dont want to miss out!! Be apart of these guys first feature - your sure to love it! Of course birthday girl Sharea will be up on the microphone to spit a few pieces both new and old.

If your not convinced that this is the place you need to be by now - then how about we mention our open mic which will be filled with poets you know and love :n) Don't miss out on the excitement

What to expect when looking at RhymeHead Entertainment's Blog

Sharea here!

Now I am fully aware, as is our small staff, of the information flow between RhymeHead Entertainment and the masses. It's a very small trickling stream in a desert. Your not exactly informed of what's going on until the 3rd weekend. We realize that by the time the 3rd weekend rolls around you'll need more than a flyer to jump back into the groove of things.

So we've put our heads together and come up with some new and innovative ways of keeping you in the RhymeHead know. Welcome to new innovative way number 1 !! TADA!! a RhymeHead Entertainment Blog! WAAAAAAHOOOOOOOO!! Most of you will be able to catch up with information about RhymeSpot from your workplace, and school network. Since most business places (including school networks) have blocked Myspace and Facebook social networks we had to think of a way to reach you online outside of the above mentioned networks.

This blog will be updated by moi, and soon (fingers crossed) other members of the RhymeHead Crew. We'll keep you in the RhymeHead know and by accessing the blog you'll have more information than most. For example check out the YouTube video bar here ------------------------------------------------------------------------->>>>
If avaliable we'll put up video's of our feature's performances so you can get a taste of their talent before the show! Of course catching it live at RhymeSpot is nothing like watching it on YouTube! but you get the point.

So keep it right here guys. You wont be disappointed and you'll always know whats going on.

What's in store for RhymeSpot October

Greetings RhymeHeads !!

Sharea here! It's a great day and I'm here to give you the latest information about RhymeSpot October. As we rap up September it seems there are a lot of things buzzing around us. Now more than ever its necessary to tune in and educate yourself about the events that are happening around us. We at RhymeConnect are encouraging you to be an active citizen! Educate yourself about what's going on! You need to know who is doing what so when election time rolls around you make the right decision for your now and your later. With that in mind RhymeSpot is taking a few events in rolling them up into our show.
The first event is not going to show up in anyone's political radar. It's not a catastrophe - as a matter of fact its quite the opposite. Kyla Williams turns 23 in October and we're celebrating the anniversary of her birth at RhymeSpot. How you may ask are we celebrating the Anniversary of Kyla's Birth ? With the RhymeSpot Features!! Kyla, as everyone does, has her favorite poets and pieces and so she's requested Gypsee-Yo, the Barnstormers, Keisha and Jahbu come to RhymeSpot and perform some of her favorite pieces. For those of you that may not be regulars, Kyla is the co-host that's not me. I know that description is lacking - let me try again. Kyla is another Co-host of RhymeSpot. She regularly will run the open mics or take turns running around during feature's sets making sure the next features are ready - getting the band together ect. ect. Kyla is co-host but she really shines behind the scenes making business decisions and spear heading the community branch of RhymeConnect, What's Mine Is Yours. She's got a passion for poetry and the community so we're thanking her for all her help and letting her know we appreciate her.
Now we know that Kyla isn't the only fan of Gypsee-Yo and the Barnstormers ( You guys went crazy trying to scoop up their merchandise last October ) so we know there are plenty of you that are just as excited about these features as Kyla is -- We'll see you at the show. It's going to be awesome

The next part of the RhymeSpot event is very serious for us and should be for you. We are working hard to make this element of RhymeSpot October a reality. Voter Registration. We want to be able to register you, your mother, your sister, your roommate, your ex boyfriend and the annoying co-worker at the office to vote. Now we understand that the registration process may not be something your avoiding per se, but you can never quite find the time, or can't find the information. Well RhymeSpot is making it easy for you. While you come and enjoy great poetry, great music, great people (as usual) we'll be putting the power in your hand and registering you to vote ( that's our plan anyway). The last day to register to vote is October 24th, so our October 18th show fits snugly inside the deadline. Don't miss out on your chance to change the future. Be an active participant in politics - not just politics but your life. If you never make another decision - decide to vote November 4th. Well, decided to register, decided to educate yourself and then decided to vote on the candidate of your chose and execute those decisions. So okay - it's a few more decisions than one - but you know what I mean!

So here's the recap. Spread the Word and the Flyer. Facebook it . Mypsace it . Twit it up! . Bring a friend. or two. or three.
See Spot Rhyme!

RhymeSpot - What You Missed.

RhymeSpot was great!

As usual we want to thank everyone that came out and supported the show! We had a great time at the Morrison Theatre and loved the cozy feel it brought to RhymeSpot.

We switched things up this show and decided to jump straight to the first of night and save the open mic for alittle later. So if you came late YOU MISSED OUT! Marc Lacy kicked things off with an amazing feature, check out Marc's merchandise and information at marclacy.com. It was a great opening to the showcase. After Marc had sufficiently warmed up the mic we brought the open mic-ers up! Emcee was back in the house after a long hiatus! She of course ripped it! It was good to hear her words again. RhymeConnect members Andre and Andrew got up for the open mic and dropped a few bars, local poet and newcomer to RhymeSpot, Nate Jones also got on the mic and dropped some serious knowledge.

Freevoice, our second feature for the night, was a treat to behold. If you've been to RhymeSpot than you know that Freevoice is going to take you on a poetic journey. Last night was no different. He took us on a journey of love poems from first spotting a lovely lady to making her yours. Of course Freevoice can never perform at RhymeSpot without performing 'the Light'. It's always a treat for him to share that piece.

Now Freevoice not only brought his best but also brought Jafaar along with him. Now RhymeSpot regulars will remember Jafaar as a singer from RhymeSpot June. Now in June Jafaar came and swooned the lady's in the house with his melodious voice and soul stirring lyrics. Last night Jafaar showed that he was an all around musician and brought out Sasha, his trumpet, to back Freevoice up during his pieces and also drop a few duets with Sasha. Of course Jafaar didn't leave without singing for the ladies and we LOVED it!

We closed up the show with a final open mic. Now this open mic grew from 3 more audience members to an open mic melee! As the muse moved through the room every 'last call' for poets prompted 1 or 2 more to the mic. Nate Jones came up twice more to drop some more wisdom on us. We had a lot of college students in the crowd that felt the need to get up and speak! A few college students that caught the ear were Vo, Laviel and Michelle- We can't wait to hear more from you guys! Keep writing and keep coming back! We encourage it, Alison G, a regular Rhymehead came up the open mic on a last call and belted a medly of Jill Scott's Especially Different and Floretry's Yes mixed with a few lines of her own poetry. It was a treat to see Alison get up share her talent with us! Later Alison commented that she felt moved to get up - like something was buring in her to share what was on her heart. I told her I felt it was good she foll wed that feeling, you never know who needed to hear whats on your heart. We all go through the same things and it's through artistic medians like poetry that we share and find strength to carry on.

We appreciate all those that came out to RhymeSpot September. The marketing for this show was a little weak but the show was a blessing to those in attendance and for RhymeHead Entertainment and RhymeConnect. Seeing your support is what we need to keep going - keep connected!

You've Arrived.

Welcome. Your here because you've followed a link on a piece of paper, in an email, in a text message, scribble on a wall or your desk. Following that link has put you right where you need to be. In the seat of knowledge. In the middle of the information flow.

We know you've been waiting. Searching through newspapers, entertainment magazines, combing the MySpace page, the ning page, checking your spam mail to make sure you haven't missed a newsletter, calling your friends checking to see if they've heard anything, you've even combed facebook for the information. Nothing. Not a single word.

Now you know this is unusual. Sure a venue may not be announced until the week of the show but the whole showcase - not a word - not a see spot rhyme - not a rhyme spot rhyme - nothing - radio silence.

Until now. There’s no telling where you got this link. On a piece of paper crumpled on the floor, from the hand of a friend, stuck on a bulletin board, on your desk, in your pocket. Sure the email was a bit suspicious, just a link with the rhymeconnect sender address. The text came from someone you know but equally as vague. The circumstances don't matter - the point is that whatever way you got here was meant for you. This page has been waiting for you. Just like you've been waiting for RhymeSpot. We’ve kept you in the dark long enough. We're glad you decided to follow the link.
